My Story
Okay, you've got me. By now you have dug into my website enough to be curious to know more about who I am. Instead of typing out a giant grand story, allow me to place my story as if it were an interview.
- Where are you from?
I am a born, adopted and raised Calgarian and I'm very proud to be planting my roots in Calgary soil. My husband Kevin and I have been living in the community of Cranston for over 15 years. Together we have two beautiful daughters who keep me on my toes.
- What started your journey in photography?
I've always wanted to be a photographer. Back in the 90's I cannot tell you how much I invested into those disposable cameras. By the time digital cameras came around and their graphics got better, I invested into my very own camera and a few SD cards.
Then I became a Mom. When you have your own tiny baby in front of you, the marvel of seeing your own creation is overwhelming and it was very imperative that I capture every angle and every moment. To this day I still have those photos backed up twice because to me they are as precious as the air I breathe.
By the time my 2nd daughter arrived, a close friend of mine who is also a professional photographer encouraged me to buy an actual camera. My first camera was a Nikon D3100 which has now been passed down to my oldest daughter. Once the girls started going to school, that's when I went back to school to get a better grasp at photography.
- Where did you study photography?
At Mount Royal University I spent two years mastering (or what I thought was mastering) my camera. This meant tonnes of assignments and even redoing assignments. I studied under one of Calgary's most well known newspaper journalists who pushed me to my limits because she knew I had great potential. No matter how hard things got, I still had the drive to keep forging forward and giving it my all.
- Why did you choose newborn photography?
There are many reasons why I chose newborn photography. The babies, the snuggles, and the list goes on. One day I saw a new form of photography called digital composite artistry. Instantly I was hooked and so hyper focused on it for years. All the while trying to develop a style for newborn photography. Then my photography became an art. Being that I could create something extra special for parents was what set me aside from the average photographer. Once I accomplished that, I had to learn newborn photography.
- Who are you outside of photography?
Aside from my career and life as a parent, you will find me biking and gardening throughout the easy seasons of the year or baking in the kitchen. I'm also an avid Super Mario fan, so you'll see me in the winter time playing video games with my daughters. I'm also a huge cat lover as I have two cats - Stella and Bellatrix.
In closing, I would like to add my motto. This motto is very important to me as I always try my best to make my clients feel comfortable and respected when they visit me at the studio.
"People may not remember exactly what you did or what you said,
but they will always remember how you made them feel."
- Maya Angelou
